Canadiana.org – Survey on digitization priorities

Canadiana.org partnered with Library and Archives Canada (LAC) a while ago on a project to digitize 40,000 reels of microfilm from LAC. This project, now known as Héritage, already offers free access to some of these digitized reels.

There is more information at Canadiana’s Héritage portal. You can browse the already digitized collections (not indexed) and you can check the listing of what’s likely coming next. Collections include films of

  • Genealogy Records
  • Aboriginal Records
  • Government Records
  • Military & War Records
  • Papers of Prominent Canadians
  • Miscellaneous – currently including select copies of Ukrainian language newspapers and periodicals.

Canadiana is asking genealogists to choose which collections to prioritize – and is offering this will involve “partially transcribing select collections“.
