Our Society has so much
to offer members!

Member benefits include our monthly meetings which offer guest speakers and educational presentations, a monthly e-Newsletter to keep readers abreast of the latest news from the BCGS and the wider genealogical world, and our quarterly e-Journal, The BC Genealogist. We also offer a variety of Coffee Chats for members with special research interests in particular regions or subjects. See our BCGS Pamphlet for more member benefit details.

Welcome to the
BCGS Website

The British Columbia Genealogical Society (BCGS) welcomes you to our website. We are a registered charitable organization with over 350 members from a variety of backgrounds and, like you, we all have an interest in researching our family history in British Columbia and beyond. We hope you will consider joining our Society - for a modest annual fee you will gain access to the Members Area of our website where additional resources can be found.

BCGS Activities & Highlights

  • Family Tree Maker User Group Event

Hosted by the BC Genealogical Society

    Friday April 26, 10am – 1pm

South Meridian Elementary School, 16244 13th Avenue, Surrey, BC V4A 8E6

You are invited to this in-person event with Duff Wilson, FTM Executive Director, and Mark Olsen, Family Tree Maker Ambassador. They will be demonstrating the new Family Tree Maker 2024 edition.

Attendance is FREE but registration is required.

If you are unable to attend in person, this event will also be available to watch via Zoom.

  • Genealogical Research in British Columbia

If you are researching in British Columbia don’t forget to check out “Researching in BC”. It is found on the dropdown list under our RESOURCES tab in our header.

The “Researching in BC” page offers a variety of links to resources specific for British Columbia research.

If you aren’t able to find what you are searching for using these resources you can always try our BC Research Team. Access the “BC Research Enquiries Page”. Enquiries are free for BCGS Members. Non-members can request assistance for a nominal fee.

  • Members' Blogs and Websites

A number of our members have their own Genealogical websites and blogs. We have a page dedicated to featuring these. They include a link to the member’s personal blog or website.

We are proud of our members’ commitments to sharing their family discoveries and stories. It is through sharing our discoveries and our research that we help other genealogists learn and grow.

If you are an individual BCGS Member with a blog or website and would like us to add it to our “Members’ Blogs and Websites” page you can email your request to webmaster@bcgs.ca.
