Genealogically, October was a very busy month for BCGS with a wonderful three day British Isles Research weekend from October 5 th -7 th , a terrific speaker, Eve Lazarus at our General Meeting and this was followed up on October 18 th with an Open House which preceded the annual Finding Your Roots seminar at the Surrey Family History Library on October 19 th . By the time you read this newsletter, the BCGS Annual Salt Lake City Trekker s will be hip deep researching in the Family History Library in Salt Lake – you’ll hear all about it in the December newsletter.
So what’s coming up? Dare I mention that Christmas looms around the corner? Time to start hinting about what you’d like to find under the tree. Wouldn’t you rather a subscription to one of the genealogy subscription sites like Ancestry or FindmyPast or IrishRoots ? Or some funds to add to ScotlandsPeople ? Much more appreciated than another set of tea towels or pair of socks. Or perhaps family members might be persuaded to do a DNA test? So start hinting now, maybe print off a subscription form. Hopefully they will take this hint and you won’t be disappointed!
For those family members or friends who are very envious of all the wonderful family history research you have done, perhaps give them a membership in the British Columbia Genealogical Society. Then they, too, can uncover all those exciting facts about their own family.
Consider joining us for our 2021 Alaska Cruise . More information on the BCGS Facebook page and in our Newsletter. It promises to be a great week.
For our November meeting, we will be paying tribute to our military past, with Colin McGregor Stevens . If members have items of a military theme – photos, medals, etc. that they’d like some help to identify, we encourage them to bring to the meeting. Colin will be happy to see if he can help clear up the mystery. Or if you have something to bring and share, that would be welcomed too.
Till next month, may your ‘thru lines’ prove true!
