About Our Society

The British Columbia Genealogical Society (BCGS) was incorporated in 1971. Our members have been researching, preserving and publishing their own family histories and those of British Columbian families for more than 50 years.

Who we are

Our Focus

A primary focus of the Society is to give individuals and groups the necessary skills to carry out their own research. We do this through our regular monthly meetings, special interest group meetings, computer offerings, genealogical chats, and through our 18,000 volume Library in Surrey. The website will introduce you to all these resources!

We encourage both individuals and groups to join the BCGS. Membership brings many benefits, not least of which is the face-to-face network of over 350 members with hundreds of years of combined research experience, all of whom are anxious to share their knowledge and experience.

Everyone is welcome to come to any session sponsored by the Society as a guest. We hope you find enough interest to join the Society.
